Emory suspends campus operations for second weekend in a row

For the second weekend in a row, Emory University announced in a community-wide email that its Atlanta and Oxford campuses will close from 7 p.m. on Jan 30 through Feb 1.

The email said the University chose to close its campuses because of an ongoing “winter storm watch” affecting Atlanta, with temperatures forecasted to drop below freezing and possible snow accumulations that may cause dangerous road conditions.

Similarly, last week, the University closed campus operations from Jan. 24 through Jan. 26 because of winter weather over the weekend and ice accumulation on Monday morning.

All activities scheduled for Friday after 7 p.m. and over the weekend, including classes and sporting events, will not be held on campus, according to the campus-wide statement. Additionally, the University added that Emory employees should work remotely, while essential workers should contact their supervisors for guidance. Emory Healthcare (EHC) faculty should refer to EHC communications for any future updates.

Last weekend, the closures resulted in limited hours for some campus dining options and recreation facilities. On Monday, the University gave professors the option of holding remote classes or cancelling meetings, according to an email from Interim Emory College of Arts and Sciences Dean Joseph Crespino.
