University operations to stay remote Monday due to winter storm

After a weekend of icy weather conditions, Emory University’s Jan. 26 campus operations will be conducted remotely, according to an Emory Communications email sent on Jan. 25.

In addition to closing on Monday, the University’s Atlanta and Oxford campuses have been closed since Jan. 24. The University’s decision to operate remotely follows Gov. Brian Kemp's declaration of a State of Emergency across Georgia on Jan. 22.

The email noted that students with in-person classes on Jan. 26 should contact their professors to see if they will have remote classes. Essential personnel should contact their supervisors for guidance, according to the statement. The University will provide additional updates in the Emory Safe app.

In addition to canceling in-person operations, the University advised students to limit their time outside.

“It may be tempting to go outside when the rain stops,” the email read. “Please remember that spending time outdoors during cold and icy conditions is dangerous. It can lead to hypothermia, frostbite, slips and falls, and other health risks.”
