To report a crime, contact EPD at 404-727-6111 or police@emory.edu.

Theft by shoplifting, simple battery at CVS Pharmacy at Emory Point

EPD responded to a call about a suspect shoplifting at the CVS Pharmacy in Emory Point around 8:15 p.m. on Nov. 4. A CVS manager told the dispatcher that the suspect had left the premises and was last seen traveling south on Clifton Road in a black Toyota Camry. EPD officers searched the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

The CVS store manager informed EPD that she saw the suspect conceal multiple items in their jacket. The manager said the female matched the description of a previous shoplifting suspect

The manager tried to prevent the suspect from leaving the store by blocking the sliding doors. When the manager told the suspect the doors were nonfunctional and told her to leave through a different exit, the suspect replied, “What are you talking about?” and pushed past the manager. A second store manager unlocked the glass doors to prevent the manager from being injured.

The manager provided a photograph of the suspect that matched photographs from previous shoplifting incidents. Surveillance video showed the suspect taking makeup items and concealing them in her jacket before the store manager confronted her. EPD estimated the total amount stolen in this incident at around $70 and will continue to investigate the case.

Theft by taking of motor vehicle at Emory University Hospital (EUH)

EPD responded to a report of a stolen car in the valet parking area at EUH on Clifton Road around 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 4. The vehicle owner said they parked their white 2017 Honda Accord on Oct. 31 at about 10:30 p.m. using the hospital’s valet parking service. When the owner returned on Nov. 4 at about 8:30 p.m., valet employees could not find either the car or its keys.

Valet staff told EPD that their system still showed the valet service had the car and the keys in their possession. The employees who handled the lost vehicle were not on duty when EPD took the report, so EPD was not able to speak with them.

EPD entered the vehicle into the National Crime Information Center computer as stolen. EPD has no current updates on the situation.

Family violence, simple battery at Parkside at Budd Terrace Nursing and Rehab Center

EPD received a call at about 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 9 after two Budd Terrace employees reported a violent exchange between a patient and her daughter.

A nursing supervisor told officers that two other employees had witnessed the patient punching her daughter in the abdomen, and the daughter responding by slapping her mother in the face. Bystanders said the patient was upset because she wanted to leave Budd Terrace and go home, but her daughter disagreed. Budd Terrace could not discharge the patient without the daughter’s involvement.

EPD spoke with a witness whose testimony matched that of the nursing supervisor. EPD then met with the patient, who acknowledged her frustration, which led to her striking her daughter. However, the patient said she slapped her daughter rather than punched her, and her daughter retaliated by slapping her back.

The patient told officers that the daughter was living in a vehicle, but EPD was unable to locate the vehicle or the daughter. EPD is currently investigating the case.
