Emory postpones Spring 2026 ‘Run the Row’ amid winter storm

In response to this weekend’s winter weather advisory, Emory University postponed its Spring 2026 “Run the Row” event, scheduled for Jan. 24. Coordinator of Sorority and Fraternity Life Patrick Wright III wrote in an email to Greek Life leaders that he will work with the Interfraternity Council (IFC) executive board to reschedule the “important event.”

Run the Row is a longstanding Emory Greek Life tradition in which new members of fraternities “run” to their chosen fraternity houses, on Eagle Row, to symbolize the end of the recruitment process.

In Wright’s Jan. 21 email, he stated that the event was postponed “out of an abundance of caution” due to the anticipated weather conditions.

The University announced on Jan. 22 that it was closing all campuses, including Oxford College, for the weekend due to “potentially hazardous weather conditions.” Georgia is currently under a state of emergency, with an ice storm warning in effect from Saturday afternoon through Monday morning.

In an email to The Emory Wheel, IFC President Wyatt Besnoy (27C) expressed his support for the board’s decision.

“It’s great that the IFC is focused on keeping our Greek community safe during the winter storm,” Besnoy said. “I have full faith in our board to make decisions which are in the best interest of the fraternities.”
