Obstruction of a law enforcement officer and criminal trespassing at School of Medicine
EPD officers arrived at the Emory University School of Medicine around 11:45 p.m. on Oct. 20 in response to a call from the Allied Universal security officer on scene about a male subject inside the facilities who was refusing to leave.
EPD located the subject near an exit door wearing the clothing described by the officer who reported the incident. The subject spoke incoherently and stated that he was stationed at his post. EPD asked the subject whether he was affiliated with Emory as a student or employee, but he did not answer accordingly and continued making unrelated comments. After EPD confirmed the man was unaffiliated with the University, they asked him to leave the premises. Despite being given multiple opportunities to comply by officials, the man did not.
Officers told the subject he could either leave voluntarily or be escorted out in handcuffs, to which he responded that he would prefer handcuffs. EPD continued to give the subject instructions and verbal commands. The subject refused to put his hands behind his back, and EPD requested that he stop resisting. EPD then successfully handcuffed and escorted him to one of the officer’s patrol vehicles.
EPD arrested and charged the man with criminal trespass and obstruction of law enforcement officers. Both warrants were granted, and the subject was issued a criminal trespass form for the University property, which he refused to sign.
Theft by taking on Emory Point Drive
An EPD officer responded to a report of stolen property at Emory Point’s parking garage on Oct. 22 at about 11:30 p.m.
The person who reported the incident stated that on Oct. 5 at approximately 8:00 a.m., she left her apartment to attend class. When she returned at approximately 10:00 p.m., she discovered that someone had stolen the wheels off a bicycle that she had rented from the University.
The complainant kept the bike in the parking garage adjacent to the PT Solutions of Emory Point. She indicated that the bike rack is located next to the elevators on the ground floor and notified Emory Transportation and Parking Services of the incident. EPD made a report of stolen property, which allowed for the bike to be replaced by the University. There are no updates on this case as of yet.
Theft by shoplifting at CVS Pharmacy on Emory Point
A manager at the CVS Pharmacy at Emory Point reported that “quite a bit of makeup” had gone missing from the store while doing inventory on Oct. 24.
The manager reviewed the footage from their cameras and observed a subject who had shoplifted numerous items. Employees discovered that someone stole the property on Oct. 24, but the manager determined that the theft had occurred on Oct. 19.
The subject’s identity remains unknown, but they have attempted to come back to the CVS since the alleged theft, according to the manager. EPD will continue to investigate the case.
