After serving in the role for two and a half years, Ravi Thadhani, executive vice president for health affairs at Emory University and vice chair of the Emory Healthcare Board of Directors, will leave his position on July 1. After stepping down, Thadhani will serve in an advisory role until Aug. 31. Even as he pursues opportunities beyond Emory, Thadhani will remain an adjunct professor in the Department of Medicine at Emory, according to a June 17 press release.
Emory established the executive vice president for health affairs role in 1996, and before Thadhani, the average tenure for the position was 6.25 years. Thadhani will have held the position for the shortest time among the office's permanent holders.

Thadhani’s exit follows other high-level departures at Emory, with University President Gregory Fenves transitioning from president to chancellor on Sept. 1 and former Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Ravi Bellamkonda leaving Emory in late 2024.
As executive vice president for health affairs, Thadhani oversaw the Emory University School of Medicine, the Rollins School of Public Health, the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, the Winship Cancer Institute, the Emory National Primate Research Center and Emory Healthcare.
Thadhani expressed pride in the work accomplished during his tenure as executive vice president for health affairs, according to the press release on June 17.
“I am proud that we strengthened Emory’s academic mission and health care system,” Thadhani said. “I am confident that Emory’s health enterprise will be in the hands of an exceptional leadership team.”
Emory Healthcare CEO Dr. Joon Lee will succeed Thadhani as executive vice president for health affairs in a new “unified role” that consolidates the vice presidency, Emory Healthcare CEO and Emory Healthcare Board of Directors vice chair, according to the press release. Lee has served as CEO since July 2023.
In the announcement, Lee expressed his hopes for the future of Emory’s health organizations.
“It is a privilege to lead this extraordinary institution at such a pivotal moment,” Lee said. “Together with our teams, we will elevate health across Georgia and far beyond—expanding discovery, delivering compassionate care, and driving innovation that transforms lives.”
Additionally, Executive Vice President for Business and Administration Christopher Augostini will extend his current role to be executive vice president and enterprise chief operating officer and Emory Healthcare Board of Directors vice chair.
Augostini manages the finances of Emory and Emory Healthcare, which were improved and stabilized under the leadership of Thadhani. In the University’s press release, Augostini expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to continue working on advancing Emory Healthcare’s mission in this expanded role.
“I look forward to continuing to work alongside Emory’s extraordinary people as we advance our mission to achieve excellence in education, research, and clinical care,” Augostini said.
