Our Opinion: Number 20, Again

After much anticipation, U.S. News and World Report has released its college rankings for 2013. Emory students, faculty and alumni can breathe a collective sigh of relief as the university once again claimed the number 20 spot. This is especially good news in light of the recent data-reporting incident that called Emory’s true ranking into question. Delusive Data Doesn’t Deter

A few weeks ago, as it often does, Emory made national headlines. This time, however, it was not for having a faculty member named poet laureate or for some philanthropic act benefitting the community. For nearly a decade, Emory was misrepresenting admissions data in the area of SAT scores and class ranking. An internal investigation found three individuals responsible and because of this, the reputation of this esteemed institution will suffer. Or will it?
