Dylan Woodliff: Today's Cartoon

I drew this cartoon as a result of personal experiences and things I witnessed first-hand in Israel. In the course of two extended trips to Israel over the past two years I was confronted with some of the realities concerning the struggle for peace.
I saw the disparity of wealth between many Israeli settlements and their Palestinian counterparts. While I cannot fathom the complex economic issues that might create such a disparity, I did witness the poverty that exists on the Palestinian side of the controversial boundary wall.
I feel that there are some eerie similarities between the boundary wall erected in Jerusalem and the walls of the Jewish ghettos in Europe during World War II. I also realize the very real differences between these two scenarios. The Jewish ghettos in Europe preceded the grossest crime against humanity in the history of mankind. I have no intention of inciting a connection with the Holocaust, although I realize this sentiment may come inevitably to some.
The point I aim to make is that confining a population behind a wall for political reasons is wrong. To me, a wall represents an oppressive act against humanity that has been used several times in recorded history. It is ironic to me that the Jewish state has adopted this measure. I understand that the situation in Israel is incredibly tense and complex. Supporters of the wall have their reasons. All I have are my opinions, and I never intend for them to be offensive.
