Ghostface Killah is slated to perform at WMRE’s Spring Band Party on April 23 in the Performing Arts Studio.

WMRE could not confirm this information. However, WMRE’s budget, which is public, has allocated funds to pay for the act, and fliers for WMRE’s LocalsFest II at 8 p.m. tonight have advertised a raffle for Ghostface Killah priority tickets.

The first 20 tickets will be raffled at tonight’s event, also in the Performing Arts Studio. LocalsFest II will feature Atlanta bands The Coathangers and The Hiss.

WMRE General Manager Sean Hallarman said ticketing for the Spring Band Party will be limited, because of the Performing Arts Studio’s smaller capacity relative to the SAAC and Glenn Memorial.

“The basic reason we did that is because we have a very fixed budget,” he said.

“Within our budget, we could have a smaller act and have a bigger production or a bigger act but have it in a potentially smaller venue because we won’t have the money left over for high production costs, like those of building a stage on the SAAC field.”

Starting tomorrow, WMRE will be giving out tickets during radio shows every half hour to students who call in.

“It will be harder to get tickets that way. The raffle is potentially an easier way,” Hallarman said.

Three hundred and fifty Emory student priority tickets will be given away, after which remaining tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Hallarman said WMRE seeks to bring the best act possible within budget.

“We tend to look for bands or acts that we deem to have real credibility and viability artistically and musically, outside of just commercially because our budget is smaller than organizations like SPC,” he said.

In previous years, the event has featured British electropop band Hot Chip, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and The Fiery Furnaces.

The Spring Band Party is scheduled for April 23 in the Performing Arts Studio, connected to the Burlington Road Building. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.
