Liu, Olsen Earn ‘Ultimate’ Honor
Emory sophomore Christian Olsen wasn’t quite sure what to expect when he submitted his application for the Ultimate Frisbee Under-23 national team. “I wasn’t even sure if I would make it to tryouts,” he said. He did much more than that. Olsen, as well as his fellow teammate and coach Byron Liu, will be representing the Eagles’ ultimate squad on the U-23 national team this summer — one of three teams the U.S. is sending to represent the country in international play. It was a grueling process, with an application that included several essays, an ultimate-style resume and a recommendation…

Ever the diligent reporter, your intrepid On Fire correspondent decided to do a little research to find out exactly how many commercials Manning had been in. This research largely took place on Google. According to Yahoo! Answers, he has been in “eight commercials and deserves every…

The ‘Beej’ Knows Best: Drafting QBs
Hello, Emory University, and welcome to another edition of “The Beej Knows Best.” We are only (at the time when this is being written) 15 days away from the beginning of the NFL draft. Teams have identified their needs and are now making their big boards in preparation for the big day. These big boards are organized not only by overall skill but also by position. And what is the most important position on the gridiron? The quarterback position. Each year, quarterbacks get overvalued and subsequently get drafted much higher than expected. Many of the experts are predicting one, if…
March Madness: Should Emory Be Dancing?
Another iteration of March Madness is in the books. Kudos to last night’s newly anointed champions, and kudos to the rest of the basketball powerhouses and their fat T.V. contracts. The players, with their free education, benefit too, of course. And there are also the underdogs, the yearly cinderellas everyone falls head over heels for. Nine-seed Wichita State was in town for the Final Four. Bonus points if you can tell me which state they are in. Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) dunked their way to the Sweet 16 and onto the national stage. Harvard, for once not the top…
