As the school year comes to an end, there’s no better way to celebrate the conclusion of finals week than with a little shopping. Summer is the time to venture past your usual style, try something different and experiment with new shapes, colors and patterns. It’s the one season that is truly all about having fun.
I’m dying to try color blocking in pastel hues, peplum skirts and super long, girly dresses. While I highly recommend you try as many trends as your bank account will allow, a crop top is an absolute must. Models wearing designs of Dolce & Gabbana, Prada and Pucci, bared their midsections as they strutted down the catwalks during fashion week. Celebrities have already been seen sporting the style from a casual day in the city, to even rocking it on the red carpet.
For those willing to be bold, a short and tight crop top paired with a high waisted flowy skirt is my favorite look of the season. Don’t want to be daring? No problem, if that style is too risqué for you try an over-sized fit that ends just slightly above your hips.
This trend is everywhere this season, so you don’t have to shell out the big bucks to try it out. Almost every store is selling them from designer brands down to Forever 21. Personally, my favorite thing about this trend is that you can make your own. That way it’s insanely cheap and totally unique. All you need is a baggy shirt; I like to get them from thrift stores, like Goodwill and the Salvation Army, and a pair of scissors. Cut it just the way you want it, and voilà your own, haute couture crop top. Pull on a pair of denim shorts and your favorite sandals and you’ve got the perfect, day or night, summer outfit.
