Based on his fresh, practical initiatives and his experience serving on the Student Program Council (SPC), the Wheel firmly endorses College junior William Levinson as the best candidate for SPC president. Levinson has been an active member of SPC for three consecutive years. He served as a member of the general body during his freshman year, and last year he was a member of the SPC executive board and the chair of the successful Taste of Emory event. This year, Levinson remains on the executive board and is the Dooley’s Week chair.

The success of Dooley’s Week this year demonstrates Levinson’s ability to work with the Emory administration in order to coordinate strong events. In addition, Levinson demonstrates a strong understanding of SPC’s internal structure. His initiatives indicate both organizational awareness and practicality. He plans to increase SPC’s transparency by implementing the ‘SPC Beyond’ program, which will establish mandatory office hours and require that SPC holds two town hall meetings per semester that will provide an open forum for student feedback and concerns.

Levinson’s most unique initiative for increased transparency is the development of an SPC smart phone application. This app will have sections which highlight past events, new events and student input. The app will also be used for student surveys. Levinson’s strongest initiative is his plan to conduct a review of the Emory student activity process. This initiative will eliminate inefficiencies that might be hindering Emory from booking premier artists. Levinson recognizes that SPC needs to work with other campus organizations in order to enhance event planning. He will initiate a combination of workshops and consulting sessions with other campus organizations. These ‘Programming 101’ events will give other campus organizations the opportunity to learn from SPC’s expertise.

Organizations seek presidents who both possess a strong grasp of internal structures, and bring new, practical initiatives to the table. SPC is no different. The Wheel endorsements committee has concluded that Levinson’s SPC experience and push for transparency make him the best candidate for SPC president.
