Interview Questions

So tell us a little on the company’s background? How did it get started?

“We started working on the idea in early 2008 and by June we had our first pieces available. We had gotten a lot of pre-orders and the rest we sold on consignment in various local stores to test it out and see how it goes and who our main consumers were. We ended up doing good in all the stores but especially skate shops. Once we knew we were heading in the right direction it was time to take everything up a notch.”

What about the name? What is the significance or story behind it?

“We match rare, exclusive, and hard to match general release sneakers from different companies so the name Sneaker Headz Clothing came very naturally once we knew who our target market was.”

In what region do you do most of your business?

“California.”

What advice do you have for someone just starting their own line? Any tricks of the trade?

“Like any business when you start you have to be in it for the long haul but never forget why you started and always take notes so every year you get better.”

Do you manufacture local or internationally?

“We have done denim internationally but we print our tees locally.”

How does your line fit into the sneaker head movement?

“It is the Sneaker Head movement! We match kicks as well as our web series Sneaker Headz TV where we feature some of the hottest shops in each city and talk about street wear and sneaker culture. We are also currently working on collaboration with a shoe company for this summer.”

What do you think the sneaker head movement is missing from a retail perspective?

“I don’t think it’s necessarily missing anything there are conventions, clothing, accessories, and more.”

How many designs do you normally come out with per season?

“We come out with 10 strong designs per season that way we know they will not only sell for us but for our retailers and that’s what’s most important is creating something that makes everyone happy from us to the retailers to the consumers.”

What do you think your hottest designs are for this season? Why?

“I believe all the designs are hot but Stock Invested I think will do the best next to Ten Kicks Commandments. It’s different it’s original and I created the graphics for it from scratch so you won’t find any image similar to it which is important when you see a lot of people copying each other. For us creativity is an unlimited resource you just have to let ideas come to you when they come and not look at what everyone else is doing while designing.”

Anybody famous rocking your products?

“Over the years we have had the privilege of meeting and working with a lot of people in the entertainment business. We mess with the Nappy Boy (T-pains Label) family heavy and they’ve been down with us almost from the beginning as well as actress/model Natasha Yi. We have also worked with Twista, Devin tha dude, Lil Cease (Junior Mafia), Huey, Too Short, Play Boy Model Stephy C and more! Special shout outs to everyone that has been down with us!”

What retail stores would you love to get into but haven’t been able to so far?

“Any retail store that would love to have us. We want the people that want us because that is where we will be appreciated and with the online store we never have to worry about our customers or fans not being able to get the product in a certain area that doesn’t carry us yet.”

What’s next on the horizon?

“We have a couple collaborations we are working on and we definitely want to cross into accessories. Also there are products that we want to create that aren’t yet available as far as we’ve seen so you’ll have to stay tuned for that.”
