I really don’t care whether or not women choose to take their husbands’ last names. I just care about ending the underlying sexist thought process — that somehow, changing your last name translates into being a better woman or a better wife. Unfortunately for me, the only thing that my sophomore year of college has really taught me is that I have very little direction in life — although this might not be as bad as it sounds. News that this year’s Rothbury Festival, a four-day long celebration of music and arts, was cancelled came as a bummer to hippies all over the U.S. The event was called off due to a poor artist line-up. Some days I feel morally obligated to leave a nice tip just in case some jerk before me left a really bad one, and other days I remember that the server is just another human being, who has financial obligations such as paying for school. On Monday, KFC is going to release the “Double Down” burger, which is comprised of bacon, cheese and mayonnaise between two pieces of fried chicken. And you can bet I’ll be there. As much as I may lack maternal instinct, I feel deeply sorry for children who are born to celebrity train-wreck parents — and I worry about how our society is negatively impacted by their arbitrary decisions to enter parenthood. Many things in this world walk the thin line between funny and just plain sad — the “Jerry Springer Show,” Christian metal bands and Carrot Top, just to name a few. Now add to that list the dating website ClassyAsianLadies.com. California State Senate Majority Leader Dean Florez introduced a bill on Friday that proposed creating an online registry of animal abusers, much like a registry for sex offenders.
