From stretching oneself academically to competing in “frat-tastic” drinking games, most people only do these things in college. And the value of these events that the board game Life fails to encapsulate is their effects on our maturity. Certain recent events, coupled with historical trends, have led me to slowly but surely lose faith in the bogus idea of the will of the masses — or that in our democracy, the majority’s needs are best protected. We communicate with more than just words. Tone, body language, facial expressions and other visual cues provide perhaps more information about what’s going on underneath the surface than what is told. Throughout the entire summer preceding my senior year, friends, adults and essentially anyone I talked to kept repeating the same advice to me — to enjoy my senior year and take advantage of my last chance to be a kid. In Google's ongoing struggle with China’s oppressive censorship rules, Google’s daring move has jolted a serious move in the right direction. How China responds now is anyone’s guess. For the past 22 years, I have grown up with a mother and sister who go crazy at the idea of meeting a “celebrity.” The anniversary of Moses’ death provides a unique opportunity to reflect upon the similarities he shares with the prophet of another once-oppressed group that we recognize this February — Martin Luther King Jr. I always feel some regret about my choice to join the B-school while I walk through the quad on the way to a College course.
