Recent Articles by Matthew TamulEmory hosted the largest collegiate display of the AIDS Memorial Quilt on World AIDS Day Tuesday. Following a lifetime of service to the University, Dean of Alumni Judson Ward (’33C, ’36G) died on Sunday. Students will now be able to gain access to Compass, Emory’s electronic accounting platform, allowing them to request reimbursements for Student Activity Fee-related expenses. The University transitioned to a new accounting system on Sept. 1, which does not allow students to log in and claim reimbursements. This has resulted in student leaders’ frustration for paying out of pocket for their student groups’ expenses. Despite laying off 198 additional people and eliminating 250 of both open and vacant positions since the economic downturn, University President James W. Wagner claimed Emory is attempting to continue to exemplify its ideal of ethical engagement. Though Harvard and Yale Universities reported significant losses in their endowments on Thursday, the prospects for Emory’s endowment are looking a little brighter. As an effort to address concerns for more diversity, University officials say that the various president’s commissions intend to be more inclusive of other minority groups on campus this year.
